History House Museum Excursion
The Carey Forrestdale Year 4 class recently visited the History House Museum in Armadale and participated in an exciting program called Kambarang to Birak.
The students have been learning about Australia’s first peoples and the long and continuous connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country. This programme is offered by the City of Armadale and provided students with hands-on and engaging experiences where students were immersed in Indigenous culture.
The day started out with learning about the six seasons and students were introduced to Aboriginal English through a fun game of Bingo! We then headed to the old 1900s classroom where students participated in a MasterChef activity. Students created a menu using various herbs, plants, and animals the Aboriginals eat off the land.
It was an excellent excursion and it was great to see the students immersed in Aboriginal culture.
