Carey Champions Shine at National Athletics in Adelaide
A huge congratulations to our talented athletes!
Five amazing Carey athletes recently represented WA in the April National Athletics Championships in Adelaide.
Abeerah Ali, Aaron Pember, Liam Domoney, and Aleeah Pike competed at the Australian Little Athletics Championships, while Laila O’Connor competed at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships.
Year 7 student Abeerah Ali collected silver medals in the 800m and 1500m middle-distance finals and was named WA’s Under 13 Champion Girl.
Freshly celebrating his successful first season of Little Athletics as U14 Champion Boy in his Club and Centre, Year 8 student Aaron Pember embraced the chance to compete in the 200m Hurdles, and the 200m and 100m sprints.
After dominating at the Australian National Track & Field Championships earlier in April, Year 8 student Liam Domoney added his name to the record books with a strong performance in the Little Athletics Championships Under 13 1500m Race Walk. Liam collected a silver medal and set a WA Little Athletics Record at 6:46.71, breaking his record from the WA State Junior Track & Field Championships in March.
Year 9 student Aleeah Pike was thrilled to make the 200m Hurdles and High Jump finals, especially after a fantastic performance at the National Athletics Championships in Adelaide only days prior.
While illness, unfortunately, prevented her from competing in her favourite event, the 800m, Year 9 student Laila O’Connor swiftly progressed through the 400m heats into the finals out of 30 athletes across Australia.
