Inclusive Education

The late Rita Pierson once said,

“Every child deserves a champion: an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists they become the best they can be.”

Rita Pierson

With that being our team motto, it is my immense privilege, as the Inclusive Education Coordinator, to introduce the Primary Learning Enrichment team to the Carey Community: Kelly Kleinjan, Bridget Sivacolundhu, and Geraldine Keighly.

– Angela Nissen | Inclusive Education Coordinator

My name is Kelly Kleinjan, and I am the Primary Literacy Support Teacher at Carey Forrestdale. You may ask why I chose Carey. The answer to this is not that I chose Carey, but God chose Carey for me. At a time when I was not feeling satisfied with my teaching position or placement, God placed the advertisement for the Literacy Support position in my lap and guided me to apply.

From the moment I set foot in Carey for my interview, I was embraced with the love and warmth of the staff, and I knew that ‘something’ was different here. The atmosphere was so different from what I was used to, and I couldn’t help but feel moved by it. I knew it was an answer to prayer when I was offered the position, and honestly, I have never looked back! I love the school, the students, and the staff at Carey, and I feel a sense of purpose that I haven’t felt in a long time! I am so blessed to teach in an area that I am passionate about, and I feel so rewarded to watch the growth of the students and celebrate their successes.

My name is Bridget Sivacolundhu, and I am the Numeracy Intervention Teacher at Carey Forrestdale. I was attracted to work at Carey because of the strong leadership team that is servant-hearted and cares about making a difference in the lives of their students and families.

I experience joy in supporting our students to make small and big wins in their understanding of numbers. Working at Carey is both a calling and a privilege, and I am passionate about supporting our students’ growth.

My name is Geraldine Keighley, and I am an Education Assistant working in Literacy and Numeracy support. At a point in my life where I was looking for a new place to work, I started relief work at Carey Forrestdale. The first day was memorable. The warmth I felt from all the staff was what I had been looking for in a workplace.

I felt at home, and when the position for my role was advertised, I knew God had found me a place to work, surrounding me with wonderful, supportive colleagues. My passion for supporting the students with literacy and numeracy brings joy to me every day, watching the students shine.
