Debating in Year 7 and 8
The Year 7 and 8 Academic Extension classes focussed on debating over Semester 1.
This involved work on public speaking, critical thinking, persuasive writing and forming rebuttal arguments.
Over several weeks, the students took part in a school-based debate competition which came to an end in Week 9 when all students and their parents were invited to attend the final round of debates. We had three debates run concurrently and all of the students performed very well!
Representatives from the Academic Extension Program will now represent Carey in the Australian Independent School NSW National Debating Competition in Term 3.
