Celebrating Mrs Vasukicakau: A National Finalist in the 2025 Christian Teacher of the Year Award

We are proud to share that Mrs Carla Vasukicakau was recently named one of just three national finalists in the 2025 Australia’s Christian Teacher of the Year award. Presented by Christian Heritage College and promoted through Christian Schools Australia, this award recognises Christian educators across the country who demonstrate outstanding care, expertise and spiritual leadership in their schools and communities.

From a large number of high-quality nominations, Mrs V’s finalist placement was a significant achievement and a meaningful acknowledgment of the work she does each day at Carey Baptist College Forrestdale. While she was not named the overall winner, being selected as a finalist on the national stage is a remarkable honour.

Mrs V leads the Alternative Learning Pathway (ALP) program, which she founded to provide a tailored and supportive environment for students needing an alternative approach to learning. Her leadership in this space reflects her heart for nurturing growth in all areas – academic, personal and spiritual. Mrs V also serves as Head of Year Eleven, offering care and guidance to students navigating their senior years of schooling.
She attended the recent award presentation in Canberra at the Christian Schools Australia Policy Forum, where the winner was announced. Although the final award went to another outstanding educator, Mrs V’s finalist recognition remains a proud milestone for our school community and for Western Australia.
We are grateful for Mrs V and the contribution she makes to the Carey vision of flourishing communities of hope. Her passion and care continue to shape lives and enrich the experience of so many students at Carey.
Thank you, Mrs V, for all you do. We are blessed to have you in our community.
