Sarah Benny wins Tim Winton Award
Congratulations to Carey Harrisdale Year 10 student Sarah Benny, who recently received second place in the Upper Secondary Category in Tim Winton’s Award for Young Writers ceremony.
The award attracted more than 1,350 entries from school students across Western Australia, from Kalgoorlie all the way up to Christmas Island. Sarah was thrilled to receive the award for her story, Same Old Love.
Sarah was featured in a newspaper article in the Examiner and here’s what she said:
“I have always enjoyed reading, so writing always came naturally to me. I love being able to express my thoughts and ideas onto paper and watch it come to life,” she said.
“Winning second place for the Tim Winton Awards was amazing and being acknowledged for all the effort that went into writing my story was such a rewarding feeling.
“I knew that I was going up against a lot of incredible writers, so when I found out that I placed in the top three, I was definitely shocked to say the least.
“However, I am really grateful to have won an award and it has definitely raised my confidence in writing more creative pieces in the future.”
