Mr Montgomery walks the Bibbulmun Track
Our Year 7 students at Carey Forrestdale, shared in the very special personal achievement of one of our teachers on Monday.
Mr Russel Montgomery, Specialist Horticulture Teacher, has been spending his long service leave walking the Bibbulmun track from Albany to Perth. Mr Montgomery has been walking for 46 days solo and on the last day of his 1,000 km walk, our students surprised him to cheer him on at the finish line.
Year 7 teacher, Mr David Boldy said it was the perfect opportunity to inspire our students to take on adventures in life for personal and spiritual growth. The experience also closely aligns with our outdoor learning focus and belief in sharing all of our lives with students – not just in the classroom.
Many of our students felt a great sense of pride in watching Mr Montgomery complete his adventures. Year 7 students, Georgia Deepu and Milanjot Kaur said they enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and took home some valuable life lessons around hard work and perseverance to achieve personal growth.
Mr Montgomery himself was overcome with emotion at having the students cheer him on at the finish line. We are looking forward to welcoming him back to Carey Forrestdale towards the end of Term 2.
