Interschool Numero Challenge

Interschool Numero Challenge

Our Carey maths enthusiasts have enjoyed a fantastic season of Numero!

On 29 July, Carey Harrisdale hosted 18 teams from 7 schools in the South Heats of the 2024 Frank Drysdale Secondary Interschool Numero Challenge.

Using mental maths, our students worked through the four rounds of the Challenge: Individual Top Take (a silent round), Team Top Take (teams discuss the best option), Numero Game (competing against other players from other schools) and Scramble (students run back and forth to complete a problem on the board at the front of the room).

We were very pleased with our teams’ results in the heats:

  • Carey Calculators – 4th
  • Carey Conquerors – 10th
  • Carey Cubics – 12th

We were also very proud of our Year 8 stewards, who tended to their duties precisely and professionally, ensuring the games ran smoothly. Thanks, Year 8s!

The Carey Calculators’ placing put them through to the Grand Final at Mercy College on 7 August. They performed very well, especially in the first two rounds of the game, where they placed 1st and 2nd. They came 5th overall, which is an improvement on last year’s score!

“We would like to thank Mrs Karasavas and Mr Rai for all the support. We are grateful that we made it into the finals and placed 5th despite being the only Year 8 team. We are proud that we had the opportunity to represent the college. We will come back stronger next year!”

Thank you to Mercy College for hosting a fierce final, Julie Richards from Independent Education and Training for organizing the Challenge, and Campion and MAWA for sponsoring the event.

If students (or parents) want to test their mental maths skills in the digital world, they can download the Numero App!
