Baseball Mania

Many hours of training and hard work have paid off for five dedicated Carey athletes. Congratulations to the following students selected to represent WA at the recent Australian Little League and Junior League Championships in NSW.

    • Thomas Larsen (Year 6)
    • Jack Johnston (Year 7)
    • Phoenix Morgan (Year 7)
    • Alexander Steinmann (Year 9)
    • Jon Leon Urresti (Year 9)

What a fantastic opportunity and experience. We hope you are as proud of yourselves as your College community is!

Year 6 student Thomas Larsen travelled to Blacktown, to compete in the Australian Little League Championship alongside teammates selected from clubs in the Hills area to make up the Southern Hills Warriors. After just four months of training together, the players demonstrated remarkable growth individually, as a team, and in their gameplay. Thomas thoroughly enjoyed the experience with his team enjoying a win and a draw in their games.

Jack Johnston and Phoenix Morgan (Year 7) represented the Central Firebirds in Division 1 of the Little League Championship. They faced a tough tournament, with rain and muddy grounds adding to the challenge, but they showed great resilience, fought for a much-deserved place in the finals, and walked away with a silver medal as the national runners-up.

Highlights of their championship experience included Phoenix hitting a home run and Jack’s part in the exciting double-play that won the live-streamed semi-final, and the moment the Central Firebirds received the support and cheers of an entire stadium of teams from every state in the gold medal game—well done, boys!

After winning gold at WA’s Junior State Championship in April, Alexander Steinmann and Jon Leon Urresti (Year 9) competed with the Central Firebirds in the Australian Junior League Championship in Lismore.

Despite the disappointment of winning 3 out of 4 games and not advancing to the semi-finals, the Firebirds showed incredible determination. They bounced back to win all their consolation games, bringing their total victories to 6 out of 7—more than any other team, including the eventual champions. A truly outstanding performance!
