The Push-Up Challenge!
Matthew and Caelan, two of our inspiring Carey students, have become ambassadors for The Push-Up Challenge, dedicated to supporting mental health initiatives.
We invite everyone—individuals and families alike—to join them in this meaningful challenge. They’ve organised online teams under the ‘Carey Community’ to monitor our collective contributions.
You can join or make a donation here through The Push-Up Challenge website.
From June 5-28, Carey Baptist College will be participating in a challenge known as the Push-Up Challenge (TPUC), Australia’s largest mental health and fitness event. This year, Matt (Year 12) and I will lead as student ambassadors, cheering our schoolmates, teachers, and school community on, encouraging everyone to get fit, have fun, and learn about mental health.
Each year, hundreds of thousands of Australians take up the challenge to complete a set number of push-ups that represent the number of lives lost to suicide in Australia in the most recent year of available data, this year being 3,249. They educate participants with daily mental health facts, and participants can fundraise for one of our chosen mental health charities: Lifeline, Headspace, and The Push for Better Foundation. Since 2017, The Push-Up Challenge has raised over $40 million for mental health programs and services and engaged over 500,000 people to push for better mental health.
Why am I doing it? The Push-Up Challenge is both physical and mental. Most days you just can’t help but feel either, “I can’t do this,” or, “I can’t be bothered,” so I enjoy pushing myself and seeing how far I can go. The Push-Up challenge also greatly boosts my mental health and confidence and helps me get into a normal routine of physical workouts. It’s cool to see a fundraiser involve kids so much so I want to use this opportunity to the best of my ability and encourage others to do the challenge, too.
