The Carey Monster Fair

The Results
The 2009 Carey Monster Fair had well over 6000 people attend (huge!) and connected our Carey community together as parents, students and teachers alike rolled up their sleeves to raise money that will go towards fitting out our new auditorium. Keep holding your breath as we continue to sort out received monies and invoices.

Middle & Senior School News

Medals of Excellence Assembly

Since 2004, the Medals of Excellence Assembly is a highly esteemed bi-annual assembly that recognises students that achieve 80% A-Grades (with no D-Grade's) in a semester.

Over the years there has been a rising number of students receiving these awards. For example, in 2007 there was one Year 8 student who got the award, in 2009 there are 20 students with two receiving 100%! Furthermore, the number of students achieving 100% A-Grades has dramatically increased from four in 2008, to 12 in 2009!

We are very proud of these students for achieving academic excellence!

Fremantle Dockers Clinic

On Wednesday 10th June, Carey senior girls had an awesome opportunity to take part in a skills clinic with the Dockers. Held at Fremantle Oval, our Senior Girls Football team met with all the Fremantle Dockers for 1 1/2 hours to learn skills to impove their performance. The girls also got to meet the players, ask questions and of course, get signatures.

A fun time had by all!

West Coast Eagles Visit

Beau Waters, Tim Houlihan and Liam Bedford from the West Coast Eagles came to Carey! Our Senior Girls Football team, Junior Boys Football team, Year 9 Girls and a group of Year 7 students all had the opportunity meet and hear from these players. Skills and activities were conducted to better each student's skill, as well as a question and answer time with each player.

Beau, Tim and Liam encouraged all students to keep playing and continue to enjoy the game. Carey Baptist College was selected as apart of 'Eagles School Visits' program which is run annually.

Congratulations!

Year 12 Politics and Law student, Stephen Puttick, was selected to represent WA at the National Schools Constitutional Convention last month. Stephen was chosen as one of 12 students from WA to debate proposed changes to the Australian Constitution in Canberra in April. Stephen must have done a good job as he has now been invited to meet with the Prime Minister Mr Rudd and the Federal Cabinet this month.

As a school we are very proud of Stephen and all our Politics and Law students. There has now been five representatives to National Conventions in the last 4 years from Carey Baptist College - a terrific achievement.

National Secondary School Computer Fund (NSSCF)

Thanks to the Federal Government, Carey has been the recipient of funding for 157 additional computers. The objective of the NSSCF is to increase the proportion of computers to students in Years 9 - 12 in all schools, to a national target of one computer to two students (1:2).

In addition, Carey has also received an additional $153,000 for IT infrastructure through the same Federal programme. This infrastructure funding has been provided to assist schools in achieving the planned 1:1 ratio (one computer per student in Years 9 - 12) by the end of 2011.

Suffice to say IT's really happening at Carey!

Music Tuition: Change of Procedures

With Carey Music going online and our new administration software in place, we have made some changes to the way we report to parents on daily administrative matters. Lesson absence will now be handled centrally and individual letters regarding absenteeism will no longer be posted home. If an issue relating to absence arises, parents will receive an automated e-mail from the College. In view of this, please ensure your e-mail address is up to date with the College administration as soon as possible.

If an issue arises with respect to equipment, instruments, or personal management, Music Tutors will make direct phone or e-mail contact with parents.

We trust this will keep you fully informed in timely manner.
