Carey Equestrian Team
Since the inaugural year in 2005 Carey Baptist College has had a number of dedicated and enthusiastic students represent the College at the Western Australian Interschool Equestrian Championships. Our numbers have continued to increase over the years from 16 in the first year to up to 23 riders in the subsequent years.
Students have the opportunity to compete in various equestrian disciplines - Dressage, Showman, Showjumping, Eventing and Showhorse classes. Riders require a level of competition experience and need to qualify for the Dressage and jumping events by competing at qualifying events to demonstrate their level of competency. Three events are held each year: the Highschool Interschool One Day Event, during Term One; the Interschool Equestrian Championships at the State Equestrian Centre, Brigadoon, in April and the High School One Day Event in August.
In the past the College has been represented by 12 Middle and Senior School students forming three teams of four riders and up to 9 Primary school students forming two or three teams. However, in 2010 we will have 16 Middle-Senior school riders and 6 Primary riders. This is because we have a number of students moving from Primary into the Middle school. We have limited places and Pre-nominations for teams close in Term Three in the preceding year. Final Nominations close in December.
New families commencing in the new College year are advised to contact the Carey Equestrian Team Coordinator, Tamara Mouchemore, as soon as possible to express their interest and to prenominate or nominate their child/children.
Currently our team places for the Middle-Senior School for 2010 are filled and only 3 places are left for the Primary team.
